Editor,
For so many years, unemployed tourism youths have been requesting for advertisement of vacant posts of district tourism officer (DTO) and tourist information officer (TIO). Our pressure group, the Arunachal Tourism Unemployed Youths Association, had met the tourism minister, finance minister and other officials concerned, but the government remains silent on this, in spite of the fact that many districts are without a regular DTO.
But, by the grace of god, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, vide Order No PERS-40/2/2022/483, dated 15 October, 2025 directed every department, including the Tourism Department, to furnish both vacant and anticipated vacancies.
Everyone – be it politicians or the public – gives importance to tourism for generating employment and revenue, and every year, on 27 September the World Tourism Day is celebrated. But in many districts, there is no regular DTO in our state, though we have huge tourism potential.
Hope that this time the Tourism Department will definitely understand the pain, frustration, disappointment, and request of unemployed tourism youths, without giving any excuse, and hand over all the existing and anticipated vacancies to the APPSC, so that the commission may recruit competent candidates from amongst unemployed tourism youths as DTOs and TIOs.
