Editor,
With several concerns raised publicly since 9th October and even a representation reportedly submitted to the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, who serves as the Chancellor of Arunachal Pradesh University (APU), it is deeply disappointing that neither the university administration nor the State Education Department has offered any clarification or initiated corrective measures. The silence in the face of such serious allegations is as troubling as the issues themselves.
Transparency and accountability are the cornerstones of any credible academic institution. When questions arise over recruitment, including the bypassing of UGC norms, lack of written evaluation, and the apparent preference for temporary appointees, the least the public expects is an official response supported by facts and documentation. Silence in such matters only fuels suspicion and weakens public confidence.
If APU wishes to grow into a truly public and merit-driven university, it must immediately:
- Publish complete recruitment data, including eligibility scores, API calculations, and final selection criteria.
- Appoint independent academic experts to future selection panels.
- Institute a transparent written test for all teaching positions to uphold merit and fairness.
The university leadership must understand that higher education institutions are built not merely by buildings and budgets but by the integrity of their processes. When those processes are compromised, no amount of infrastructure can compensate for the erosion of trust.
I once again urge the Education Department, the Executive Council, and civil society to take notice. This is not just about a few appointments, it is about the ethical foundation and credibility of our state’s first public university.
