Editor,
I would like to highlight the woes of vocational education teachers (VETs), who have been engaged at government higher and secondary schools in Arunachal Pradesh since 2016.
Designation issues: The designation of vocational education teachers is still not proper. Whenever VETs are engaged in CBSE Class 12 paper evaluation duties we are designated as PGT, TT/IT, etc, and whenever we are engaged in CBSE Class 10 paper evaluation, we are designated as TGT, TT/IT, etc. There is no proper designation for us. We are designated as TT/IT only when required, without rank and pay scale.
Workload: The VETs have their own specialised subjects, such as TT/IT/beauty and wellness, etc, like other subject teachers. However, we are being engaged to teach other subjects, such as science, SST, English, etc, and we are allocated the last period.
Implementation of kaushal bodh: Now the CBSE is trying to implement the kaushal bodh (book) for Class 6 to Class 8 (session 2026-27) in all CBSE affiliated schools, and the responsibility is placed on the VETs.
Meagre salary: We are teaching students of higher and secondary schools; however, our salary is less than that of the elementary SSA teachers, and there is no pay scale and rank.
Regularisation: The RMSA teachers working since 2017-18 are going to be regularised. However, we are working since 2016 and there is no such communication from the authorities concerned, despite numbers of petitions having been submitted.
The NEP-2020 emphasises on vocational education and skills development as TT/IT, and other vocational subjects are being introduced in our state. The CBSE Class 12 and Class 10 pass percentage has been increasing and students are eager to opt for vocational subjects. Vocational education and skill development are the backbone of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Arunachal.
Therefore I humbly appeal to the chief minister and the education minister to look into the serious issues of vocational education teachers for Shikshit Arunachal and Viksit Arunachal.
