Editor,
Arunachal Pradesh could consider promoting a common indigenous festival of its own. At present, none of the traditional festivals of the state are celebrated collectively by all communities across Arunachal. Most indigenous festivals remain associated with particular tribes or regions.
In this context, I feel that the singhi cham/yak dance/lion dance could be promoted through annual state-level competitions, and Sangken could be declared a state festival, so that people from all communities may participate and celebrate together.
Such an initiative could help bring greater unity and a sense of shared identity among the diverse communities of Arunachal. Along with the Singhi cham dance, traditional sports could also be included, such as bamboo wrestling, bow and arrow competitions, and other indigenous games practiced by different tribes.
This would not only promote unity but also help preserve and showcase the rich indigenous cultural heritage of Arunachal.
