Editor,

We wish to draw the attention of the constituted screening committee of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), the education department, Rajiv Gandhi University, and the higher and technical education directorate to an important concern regarding the eligibility criteria for the recruitment of assistant professor in the subject of education.

As per the essential educational qualifications for the post of assistant professor in the subject of education, a candidate must possess a BA, MA, and PhD degrees in education and must have qualified UGC-NET in education.

Degrees such as BSc with MA, PhD in education, BCom with an MA PhD in education, or even MEd, should not be treated as equivalent for the post of assistant professor in the subject of education.

Any deviation from this requirement would undermine the intent and rationale of Appendix-II (Table 3B) of the UGC Regulations, 2018, which clearly emphasises subject-specific qualifications. This principle of academic alignment is consistently applied across disciplines to ensure academic rigour and maintain the quality of higher education.

We sincerely hope that this appeal will reach the authorities concerned, and that appropriate measures will be taken to uphold discipline-specific standards in recruitment.
