JEMEITHANG, 31 Mar: Commemorating the entry of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama into India through Kenzamani in 1959, the second edition of the ‘freedom trail’ was flagged off in Tawang district on Tuesday to retrace the sacred path through a six-day trek from Kenzamani to Tawang.

The trek will culminate at Pungteng Tse on 5 April, where His Holiness had stayed upon his arrival from Kenzamani.

The first leg of the journey at Gorong Kukpa witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Lungla MLA Tsering Lhamu, ZPC Leki Gombu, the abbot of the Tawang monastery, Lungla ADC Tashi Dhondup, Army officials, gaon burahs, and PRI members.

Addressing the gathering, the MLA emphasised the profound significance of the trail, stating that “we walk today the same path once taken under extraordinary circumstances – now as a symbol of unity, remembrance, and cultural pride.”

ZPC Gombu, DoKAA Vice Chairperson Sange Chhodup, and other dignitaries also addressed the gathering.

They offered prayers for long life and good health of the Dalai Lama, and urged people to imbibe his teachings in their daily lives, fostering peace, compassion, and welfare of all sentient beings. (DIPRO)
