Editor,

We would like to place on record our sincere appreciation for the adoption of Appendix-II (Table 3B) of the University Grants Commission Regulations, 2018. This initiative marks a commendable step towards enhancing transparency and standardisation in the recruitment of assistant professors.

We, on behalf of PhD scholars, UGC-NET qualified candidates, and aspiring assistant professors in the subject of education, wish to draw the attention of the constituted committee of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and the education department of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) to the following points for their consideration for necessary action:

Alignment of UG and PG degrees: It is pertinent to note that candidates who pursue a bachelor of arts (BA) in education are required to continue with a master of arts (MA) in education for higher academic progression and eligibility in institutions such as RGU and other universities across India.

Non-equivalence of unrelated UG degrees: Degrees such as BSc, BCom, or BA in subjects like political science, history, or geography, followed by MA and PhD in education, should not be treated as equivalent qualifications for the post of assistant professor in education, as they lack foundational subject alignment at the undergraduate level.

Professional nature of BEd and MEd: Bachelor of education (BEd) and master of education (MEd) are professional courses primarily intended for teacher education and are generally relevant for appointments in BEd colleges.

Distinction between MEd and MA in education: It is important to highlight that MEd (master of education) and MA in education are distinct in nature. MEd is a professional degree tailored for teacher training institutions, whereas MA in education is an academic degree. Therefore, they should not be treated as equivalent for recruitment in general degree colleges.

In view of the above, we humbly request the APPSC to kindly ensure that alignment between UG (BA in education) and PG (MA in education) is made a mandatory criterion for appearing in interviews for the post of assistant professor in education in general degree colleges of Arunachal Pradesh.

Furthermore, adherence to this requirement would uphold the intent and rationale of Appendix-II (Table 3B) of the UGC Regulations, 2018, which emphasises discipline-specific qualifications.

We sincerely hope that this representation will reach the authority concerned for their consideration, and that appropriate measures will be taken to implement discipline-specific standards in recruitment.
