RUKSIN, 1 Apr: The police, tax & excise and forest departments in East Siang district have intensified surveillance along the interstate boundary following the enforcement of the code of conduct in Assam for the forthcoming Assembly election in that state.

Joint surveillance teams of officials from the police, tax & excise and forest departments of the district have initiated surveillance along National Highway515 and other rural roads connected to the interstate border to prevent transportation of liquor, narcotics and drugs, arms and ammunition, precious metals,and illegal cash.

They are conducting vehicle checking under the strict supervision of the East Siang SP on a daily basis. However, no seizure of any prohibited items has been reported by the surveillance teams so far.

Meanwhile, the district police have alerted the local people and suggested to them not to violate the rules framed under the election commission guidelines.

 When contacted, Ruksin ADC Kiran Ningo said he recently held a meeting with the officials and instructed them to maintain proper coordination among the departments and ensure complete restrainton illegal transportation of liquor, carrying of illegal cash and other prohibited items within Ruksin subdivisional jurisdiction.

Following directives from the state election commission, the East Siang DC had issued an order directing the police, tax & excise and forest departments’ officials to ensure strict vigilance in connection with the Assam Assembly election and instructed them to conduct joint naka checking in the boundary areas.

Earlier, on 17 March, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had issued instructions to the state’s CEO to ensure strict checking at interstate border check posts with Assam and seize illegal cash and other materials prohibited under the ECI norms.
