ANINI, 1 Apr: The public hearing for the proposed 680 mw Athunli Hydroelectric Project (HEP), a statutory prerequisite for securing environmental clearance from the environment, forest and climate change ministry, was conducted in the presence of local residents, stakeholders, and project-affected families (PAFs) in Athunli in Dibang Valley district on 1 April.
During the proceedings, the project consultant presented a detailed overview of the project, highlighting its key features in the context of the environmental impact assessment report and the environmental management plan. The presentation emphasised on a balanced approach to development, integrating environmental safeguards with long-term socioeconomic benefits.
Reportedly, the PAFs expressed strong and positive support for the project, underscoring their aspirations for timely implementation and early commissioning.
Envisioned as the third major hydropower initiative in Dibang Valley, the project is expected to contribute significantly to regional development by fostering economic growth, creating employment opportunities, strengthening infrastructure, and generating clean, renewable energy.
The hearing was organised by the Arunachal Pradesh Pollution Control Board, and was chaired by Dibang Valley DC Bekir Nyorak. (DIPRO)
