RONO HILLS, 2 Apr: The placement cell and the career counselling cell of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), in collaboration with NEXT IAS and Helping Hands, organised an orientation programme under the NECTDAM (North East Civil Services Talent Discovery & Access Mission) initiative on Wednesday at the mini auditorium of the university.

The programme aimed to create awareness among aspiring civil services candidates about the prestigious scholarship exam 2026-2027, which offers scholarships worth Rs 5 crore to benefit over 2,000 talented students from the Northeast region, thereby significantly enhancing access to quality civil services coaching.

In his address, Helping Hands president Robin Hibu, a 1993-batch Indian Police Service officer of the AGMUT cadre, currently serving as special commissioner of police, Delhi, delivered an impactful speech, emphasising perseverance, discipline, and clarity of purpose, the university informed in a release.

Drawing from his own journey, he urged students to remain focused and resilient in the face of challenges. “His speech left a profound impact on the audience, with many students saying that they felt personally motivated and emotionally moved,” the release stated.

Helping Hands, under the leadership of Hibu, is a dedicated non-profit organisation working extensively for the welfare of people from the Northeast across India, providing assistance in times of crisis, facilitating education, and supporting career development initiatives.

A session was conducted by Neeraj Chouhan and Supriya Singh, who provided guidance on preparation strategies, opportunities, and the benefits of the NECTDAM scholarship initiative. They highlighted the importance of focused preparation and the role of such initiatives in empowering youths from the Northeast.

During the evening session, conducted in collaboration with Success Point, Itanagar, another session was delivered by Ashish Ranjan and Akshay Jain, further enriching the participants with practical preparation techniques and exam-oriented strategies.

An interactive session was also conducted for the benefit of the participants.

RGU’s Placement Cell Professor (i/c) SK Jena and Placement Officer Susmita Chanda Dhar also spoke.

Students from various departments of RGU participated in the event.

The programme was organised under the supervision of RGU Career Counselling Cell coordinator Prof Boa Reena Tok, the release added.
