ITANAGAR, 2 May: Continuing their intensive effort to break up a suspected criminal network transporting illegal drugs and distributing it in the capital region, the Itanagar police arrested one of the main suspected drug suppliers from Jamuguri in Assam on Saturday.

The arrested person has been identified as Ruful Amin (31), a resident of Kekokali Nepali village in Sonitpur district of Assam.

Breakthrough was achieved by the Itanagar police after the police thoroughly investigated the drug-related cases registered during the last one-and-a-half month.

Based on sustained interrogation of arrested peddlers/carriers, technical follow-up and linkage analysis, the Itanagar police identified one of the main suspected suppliers, Amin.

Acting on its intelligence source, the Itanagar police conducted the joint interstate operation with the Jamuguri police in Sonitpur district of Assam and arrested the accused.

During the operation, an intermediate quantity of suspected heroin was seized from his possession. The police also registered a separate case at the Jamuguri police station.

During the last one-and-a-half month, the Itanagar police have registered six heroin-related NDPS cases, arrested six accused peddlers/carriers, and seized approximately 120 grams of suspected heroin from different locations within Itanagar.

Investigation of the cases revealed a consistent pattern that the seized narcotic substances were allegedly being sourced from Assam and supplied into Itanagar through interstate channels.

Meanwhile, the superintendent of police lauded the Itanagar PS team for the feat and reiterated that the Itanagar police remain committed to dismantling narcotics networks through intelligence-based policing, interstate coordination and sustained lawful action.
