NAMSAI, Jun 30: Over 800 farmers from eight villages in Namsai district were trained on bee rearing during a series of training programmes conducted by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) from 16 to 30 July.
The villages which were covered during the training programme were Alubari, Chakma-I, II, III, Gunanagar-I, II, Chongkham, and Lathao.
Namsai KVK head Dr Manish Kanwat explained the Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan, which undertakes various activities to promote best farming practices and enhance agricultural income, and Dr Kanwat highlighted the roles of KVKs in doubling farmers’ income.
Besides empowering the farmers on bee rearing methods and techniques through demonstrations, KVK subject matter specialist Dr Debasis Sasmal spoke on the importance and benefits of beekeeping and how it helps increase crop production.
The training programme was organized under the ICAR regional centre, Basar, in collaboration with the National Bee Board, under the KKA mandatory programme.
Environment & Forests Parliamentary Secretary Chow Tewa Mein, Director of Jute Development, Kolkata, Dr K Manoharan, Namsai Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma, and NABARD Itanagar DDM Kamal Roy also participated.
