TEZU, Jul 14: Members of the Lohit Green Foundation in collaboration with the Lohit disaster management cell conducted a bamboo plantation programme on the left bank of Tezu Nala – from ALC Line to Tezunala Bridge – on Saturday, in a bid to check flood menace in the district.
About 100 bamboo saplings were planted during the drive which also saw the participation of members of the Lohit Organizing Committee and the Khane Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd of Anjaw district.
“The problem of flooding in Lohit district has worsened due to rampant encroachment on reserve forest and illegal cutting of trees in the last two decades,” DDMO Damchin Norbu said.
He said preserving and promoting the regeneration of the forest cover would help arrest floods, and appealed to the NGOs to support such initiatives.
