NAHARLAGUN, Aug 29: Achom Degio of Arunachal Pradesh is among the 35 probable short-listed players to represent the Indian national team at the SAFF U-18 Women’s Football Championship to be held in Bhutan from 27 September.
She is the daughter of Takyang Degio and Mejin Degio, and is currently pursuing her studies as Bachelor of Physical Education at LNIPE (NERC), Guwahati.
Achom was a member of the state’s junior girls’ football team, which took part in the recently held Junior Girls National Football Championship in Goa. She plays for Capital Complex Football Club, where she started her club football.
“This is a very happy and proud moment for us indeed. Her achievement will surely inspire many young girls to take up football”, said Arunachal Pradesh Football Association secretary Kipa Ajay.
“She was also part of Indian National Camp for U-14 team in 2014, but could not make it to the final squad. We are hoping that this time she gets there,” he added.
