ITANAGAR, Oct 10: The Capital Electrical Division has intensified its drive against energy thieves in the state capital. One more person was arrested by Itanagar police on Wednesday based on a complaint filed by an official of power department alleging tampering and bypassing of prepaid energy meters. One Asrafal Alam, a private electrician was apprehended from C Sector Market line area after a case, vide Ita PS Case No- 273 /18 u/s- 379 IPC was registered against him.
Itanagar Police Station Officer in-charge T Bage informed that police is currently investigating the matter and questioning Asrafal Alam in this regard.
This is the fourth such arrest in the last 15 days.
Earlier two electricians were arrested for illegally tampering with energy meters in the Chimpu area and another electrician working with Arunachal Police Housing & Welfare Corporation Limited was also arrested for similar crime.
Meanwhile, the Capital Electrical Division Executive Engineer, Joram Lali has warned those people including government officials and staffs who involved in stealing power to refrain from it.
“The department is going to take legal action and everyone involve in this kind of illegal activities will have to face legal action. I appeal to the denizens of capital complex to put an end to this illegal practice,” said EE.
He also added that the drive will be continued and department will leave no stone unturned to catch the wrongdoers. Further, EE informed that department will soon launch revenue drive in the capital region.
