PARBUK, Feb 26: Thirty women representatives from 13 SHGs of Parbuk village are undergoing skill development training in ‘poultry, piggery and hospitality’ here in Lower Dibang Valley district.
During the inaugural function on Tuesday, Roing-based NGO AMYAA’s secretary RK Paul Chawang said pig farming
has huge economic potential for both individuals and groups in the region, in view of the high consumption of pork in the region.
“The only thing that village communities require is the need for change of mindset from the traditional way of pig farming to scientific methods,” Chawang said.
There was a group discussion and group activity among the participants, focusing on how poultry- and piggery-related activities are being carried out at the village level.
The group representatives later highlighted how they still follow the traditional ways of rearing pigs and chickens in their houses, and pointed out the issues and challenges in rearing pigs, in terms of finding food, cooking, firewood, slow growth, sickness, etc.
DVOs MS Sarkar and A Ngukir explained the scientific way of rearing pigs, stressing on the importance of sanitation and hygiene for healthy growth of pigs, and timely vaccination to prevent pigs from certain diseases.
NABARD DDM Nitya Mili gave inputs on the government’s subsidized schemes for poultry, piggery and dairy farm operations, being channeled through the NABARD in the state.
The Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank’s (APRB) Roing Branch Manager PB Chetry spoke on the role of the banks in helping individuals and groups in availing loans.
The participants are set to go on an exposure visit to the district veterinary office in Roing and the piggery farm there to gain hands-on experience, as part of the training programme.
The programme is supported by the Roing block development office and facilitated by the AMYAA, in collaboration with the NABARD’s Roing branch, the district veterinary office, and the APRB’s Roing branch.
