AALO, Mar 3: The West Siang District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organised a ‘legal awareness-cum-training programme’ at the North East Frontier Technical University (NEFTU) here on 2 March.
Attending the programme, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Basar, Lobsang Tenzing, dwelt on topics such as the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and protection of women and children, and stressed on the importance of creating legal awareness among the people, saying that “not knowing the law of the land cannot be an excuse anyway.”
DLSA Member Secretary Hirendra Kashyap deliberated on civil and criminal procedure codes, legal aid to needy persons, and free counselling through legal clinics and paralegal volunteers in the district.
Pangin Judicial Magistrate First Class, Sonia Ketan, District Bar Association secretary Kebom Taso, and advocate Marpi Ete also spoke on various legal provisions.
Earlier, NEFTU vice chancellor Dr Tejum Padu highlighted the activities taken up by the university to promote various innovative programmes for the district. (DIPRO)
