ROING, Mar 29: The NHPC’s Dibang multipurpose project (DMP) under its corporate social responsibility and sustainable development programme on Friday distributed sewing machines to 40 underprivileged women who had earlier undergone a month-long training in tailoring and handicrafts here in Lower Diabang Valley district.
The DMP organized the training in association with the textiles & handicrafts department and SHG Abbe Geba Neh to impart employability skills to the women and girls of the district.
Addressing the valedictory function, DMP’s Chief General Manager Biswajit Basu expressed hope that the knowledge and skills the trainees have gained would help them start small businesses on their own.
“Usually, women belonging to poor economic background find it very difficult to manage their families. They are deprived of nutritious food, proper healthcare and minimum education,” Basu said.
He assured to organize advanced training for them in future to upgrade their skills.
