Dear Editor,
Being a teacher, I feel it is very necessary that something should be done to do away with the existing trend of failing in the All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE) and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE).
It is not that the students of Arunachal Pradesh are dull, but it is because the academic session is defective. The students do not get enough time as the session is too short. About 70-80% courses can only be completed with the existing academic session.
Moreover, there is acute shortage of subject teachers all over the state. Textbooks are received mid-session, ie, just before or after the second term. Even then, 40-50% of the students clear the AISSE/AISSCE, which indicates that the students are fair and the teachers are doing their job dedicatedly.
The academic session of all the schools in Arunachal should be from 2 January to 17 December. Winter vacation should be from 18 November to 1 Jan. It will help to complete the courses of Classes 10 and 12 by October, before filling up the forms for the board exams.
Pre-board exam should be taken in the month of October. The successful candidates in the pre-board exam will get 13 thirteen months’ time for appearing for the AISSE/AISSCE. This change will bring a drastic change in the educational scenario with 100% or a little lower pass percentage in Arunachal Pradesh.
During 2018-‘19, the department had a difficult time as there was much uproar by parents and students who failed the pre-board test. The CBSE had already issued admit cards, and the students demanded revoking the order which barred them from appearing for the board exam.
Therefore, the pre-board test should be taken before filling up of forms in Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12. With this, students who failed in the pre-board test can be barred from appearing for the internal/board exams automatically.
The academic sessions in Arunachal Pradesh are continuing as they had been prepared back in the old days, which is not suitable now. We should find ways and means and mould ourselves with the situation for the welfare of the students, who are our future.
Sincerely,
Nomni Pertin
