RONO HILLS, May 14: The Galo community of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) and the Doimukh unit of the Galo Welfare Society (GWS) have mourned the death of GWS president Dr Minge Loyi.
In a condolence meeting at the RGU’s auditorium here, they observed two minutes’ silence and paid floral tributes as they recalled the contributions of Dr Loyi.
Prof Tomo Riba in his condolence speech said Dr Loyi was “a very down-to-earth person,” and that in his brief tenure as the general secretary, and then as the president of the GWS, “he proved to be one of the finest leaders to have led the Galo society.”
Dr Tajen Dabi gave a brief biographical speech on Dr Loyi, and termed him “a rare breed of human being who devoted his time, energy and resources to the service of society and humanity.”
Yano Potom narrated her experience of having worked with Dr Loyi, and described him as a “very approachable person with strong character and conviction.”
Prof Nani Bath also attended the condolence meeting.
The All Papum Pare District Livestock Farmers’ Welfare Association has also mourned the death of Dr Loyi, was the Papum Pare district veterinary officer at the time of his demise.
“Dr Loyi was a sincere and dedicated officer. The demise of Dr Loyi is a great loss for the society and the state as a whole,” the association said in a condolence message.
Members of the association observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
