ITANAGAR, Aug 29: The Arunachal Physical Education and Sports Union (APESU) celebrated National Sports Day with the theme “Sports is the best weapon in the battle for peace on Earth” at Government Higher Secondary School, Chimpu.
National Sports Day is celebrated every year on August 29, the birth anniversary of Dhyan Chand, one of the greatest field hockey players of all time.
Yoga demonstration and football final match were the main highlights of the day-long programme, where Government Higher Secondary School won the match beating Government Secondary School, Chimpu.
BJP Youth leader Jekke Tako attended the programme and encouraged the youths to participate in games and sports activities, stating that sports inculcate discipline, friendship and brotherhood, besides keeping one physically fit and mentally sound.
Earlier, floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Dhyan Chand.
Headmaster, Momik Boje Kamki, School Management Committee members, teachers and students, local public attended the prorgamme.
