TEZU, Sep 4: United Loiliang Football Club won the 10th T. Chai Memorial Running Football Tournament beating Tafragam Football Club by solitary goal in a closely fought final match at Jubilee Ground, Tezu on Monday.
Jenemso Chipo and Jirokso Tayang were adjudged as ‘Best Goalkeeper’ and ‘Best Player’ of the tournament respectively. The ‘Best Discipline Team’ award went to Khoraliang Football Club.
The winning and runners up teams were awarded cash prize of Rs.50,000 and Rs.30,000 respectively along with medals and trophies.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Karma Leki, who kicked off the final match, praised the Chai family for giving a platform to youngsters to showcase their football talent. He hoped the platform provided by the Chai family through this tournament will someday bear fruit and help the youngsters to do better in the field of games and sports and build their career.
Minister Dr. Mohesh Chai, son of Late Tangkhakso Chai also witnessed the final match. He informed that the tournament was introduced by his elder brother and former minister Nakul Chai in memory of their father to encourage the youths in sports and guide them in proper way.
In all, 17 football teams from, Lohit, Namsai, Lower Dibang Valley and Anjaw districts participated in the tournament.
The inaugural ceremony on August 18 was attended by Director of Sports, Tadar Appa.
The tournament was organized with support of the Department of Sports, Tezu and Lohit District Administration.
