ITANAGAR, Sep 10: At least nine students from various schools in Itanagar attended the first regional conference (eastern) on Waste Disposal and Management held in Guwahati on September 9 and 10.
Selected by the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) based on essay and poster competitions, the students got an opportunity to know about waste disposal and management from the experts.
The technical sessions covered various waste management topics, including low cost waste water treatment through natural biological system, reuse of treated waste water and resource recovery, biological treatment of waste water, integrated and sustainable solid and liquid resource management, bioconversion of wastes to manure through vermicomposting, mechanical composting of municipal solid waste, etc.
Tomter Gamlin, a class XI (Commerce) student of GHSS, Itanagar and Ayush Deb, a class VIII student of VKV, Itanagar received certificates in essay and poster competitions respectively.
The conference was conducted by the National Green Tribunal, Eastern Bench, Kolkata, Forest Department of Assam and all the pollution control boards of the eastern region, which also saw the participation of students from all eastern region states.
