ITANAGAR, Sep 21: Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker, T N Thongdok requested the Assam Government to donate a plot of land at Singri, Assam to construct a Stupa (or Gompa) there.
Thongdok made this request during a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday. He informed the Assam Chief Minister that the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh has assured him full support.
Thongdok informed in a release that the Assam Chief Minister has assured to extend all possible help for early materialization of the request.
As per traditional history, Singri has been a pilgrimage Buddhist site since the 14th century. It is the place where the mortal remains of Buddhists people, especially the Sherdukpens are taken for last rites.
The Monpas of Kalaktang, Dirang, Tawang and nearby areas pay holy visit to Singri routinely.
The Speaker also underscored the need to maintaining the age-old cordial relationship between the people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Assam Ministers Pallav Lochan Das and Pramila Rani Brahma also attended the meeting.
