ZIRO, Nov 28: The Pare-Ami market shed, constructed under the aegis of Lower Subansiri Vegetable Growers Co-Operative Society Ltd (LSVGCS) was inaugurated by ZPC Hage Kobin on Tuesday amidst the presence of officers from the Horticulture and Agriculture departments, HoDs, PRI members and farm women.
Terming farmers as the backbone of the rural society, he called for coordination between the agrarian group and the Panchayat members.
‘PRI members have been mandated to select beneficiaries for various agriculture and horticulture schemes by the government. Therefore, care should be taken to include the entrepreneurs and progressive farmers to encourage them and boost production in the district,’ he said and advised the vegetable growers to opt for organic farming.
Further, ADC Nending Chatung assured to take up the rental issue and renovation of the market shed in the APMC quarterly meeting.
As informed by Kago Kampu, a progressive farmer and Secretary LSVGCS Ltd, the current rent of the shed is Rs 3500, which is too high for the farmers, most of whom are women.
DRCS Gyati Kobin extended all possible assistance to the farmers in terms of loans and subsidies to the registered societies.
Presently, 463 farmers of 39 farming clubs are members of the cooperative society. The market will house only organic fruits and vegetable products of the district. (DIPRO)
