DAPORIJO, Jan 2: The Arunachal Stat Rural Livelihood Mission (ArSRLM) has been giving hope to various self help groups in rural Daporijo by extending support in the form of input training at different stages to self help groups (SHGs).
Accordingly, a group of staffers under the Block Mission Manager (BMM) of Daporijo has started working with the women’s SHG at Ligu village and engaged them in saving and depositing in a common fund so that one percent interest rate can be provided to its members.
These SHGs are formed on the principles of mutual trust, spirit of saving, need-based lending, peer group pressure in repayment, capacity building and empowerment.
The BMM of Daporijo also organises various activities and awareness campaign on open defecation, Mission Swachta Pakhwada, improvement in public utilities, education system, potable water supply and public institutions.
“We are very thankful to the ArSRLM for organising and empowering us. We never thought that we could take up issues related to our village and considered it to be a man’s task. But we have solved several issues after joining ArSRLM in the form of our SHG” Said Janu Soki, Sippi VO’s President.
Yagam Niji of Niji village says, “By joining SHGs, women of my village have become united and support each other even in domestic violence matters. My village now witnesses women groups standing together against the husband of the victim of domestic violence”.
“Apart from that we get easy loan in the time of need, that too in the interest rate of one per cent. I have cultivated a potato farm by taking loan from the SHG and am expecting good profit,” Yagam added. (The contributor is Block Mission Manager, Daporijo, Arunachal State Rural Livelihood Mission)
