Martyrs day

Dear Editor,
January 30th is observed as Martyrs day and it is on this day in 1948, father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated, which was considered as a greatest tragedy for a nation that had just won hard fought independence. It is very difficult for the current generation to imagine what it is to be without freedom or be treated like a slave, but we immediately complain when our freedom, which is like oxygen of the soul, is slightly curtailed and suffocate. So when we observe 2 minute silence at noon let us remember to thank all the martyrs who fought hard for our freedom and also recall Mahatma Gandhi’s quote“Freedom is never dear at any price. It is the breath of life. What would a man not pay for living?”
Yours,
