Just when everyone forgot about the Hollongi airport, the Member of Parliament from eastern parliamentary constituency Ninong Ering has written an important letter to Minister of Civil Aviation, Ashok Gajapathi Raju seeking current status of Hollongi (Itanagar), Tezu and Pasighat airports. MP Ering deserves applause for pursuing the matter of Hollongi green field airport which is in limbo for the last many years. Infact minister of state for home and MP from western parliamentary constituency Kiren Rijiju should have been raising this issue. But so far Rijiju has maintained complete silence over this project.
It is a tragedy that Itanagar is the only capital in whole of India not to have an airport till now. People have to travel to Guwahati to catch flight to various destinations. The green field airport is in offering for the last many years but it has not materialized so far. Ugly politics has damaged the prospect of Itanagar airport. The state and central government need to resolve airport issue at the earliest. The citizens of capital region should not be made political scapegoat. Itanagar deserves to have airport of its own. Sincere effort should be made to resolve all issues concerning the Hollongi airport so that actual work starts at the earliest.
