The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) popularly known as NERIST, is once again in news for all the wrong reasons. The students of NERIST have shut down the institute alleging that MHRD has failed to meet their demand. The students union of NERIST along with All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union has been demanding for posting of regular director at NERIST. The institute is functioning without regular director for the last two years and it has severely impacted its functioning.
Once known as technology hub of north east region, today NERIST is struggling to properly function due to various factors. One of the reasons is absence of regular director. The MHRD has failed to appoint regular director despite several assurances. The bitter feud among the employees of NERIST has also affected the functioning of institute. Few greedy employees for their selfish motive are hurting the state’s interest by disrupting the functioning of NERIST. The crisis has gone far too long. If it continues NERIST might close one day. The time has come for some tough action in order to streamline the functioning of the premier technical institute of the state. As a beginning a person with impeccable back ground should be appointed as director of NERIST. Also the employees need to put aside their differences and work for the betterment of the institute. NERIST is the prestige of state and everyone should join hand together for its betterment.
