NAHARLAGUN, Mar 20: Twenty five participants from around the Capital Complex participated in a training programme on mushroom cultivation technology, here on Tuesday.
The training was organised by the Itanagar branch of CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology (NEIST) at its office premise in Naharlagun.
The CSIR- NEIST has an extensive facility for training on mushroom cultivation technology for interested mushroom farmers.
Senior Technical Officer, Dr Budhen Ch Baruah highlighted the prospects of cultivation of mushroom for self sustenance as well as societal development.
“Edible mushrooms are very good source of vitamin-D”, he said and emphasised on organised cultivation not only for income generation but also to combat malnutrition.
He stressed on domestic cultivation of known varieties available at the NEIST branch of Itanagar on simple scientific methods, and highlighted the cost economy of small, marginal and commercial mushroom farming.
A demonstration on preparation of mushroom bags was also rendered during the training programme.
