The strong action initiated by Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) against polluting industries operating in the state is a step in right direction. With rapid urbanization and growth in industry sector, there was need for strict monitoring to check the pollution. In the last decade several new hotels, factories, stone crushers and other industries have come up in various parts of the state. Hotel industry is especially flourishing in capital complex and in tourist destinations like Tawang and Ziro. Infact rapid urbanization is posing serious threat to ecology of places like Tawang and Ziro. Most of the hotels operating in these places do not have proper garbage and drain management system.
But shockingly so far the authority concern never bothered to take any action. Also these days’ stone crushers are coming up in large number all over the state. Most of these crushers do not follow the laid down norms and cause massive pollution. In coming year more number of industries is expected to be set up in various parts of the state. The pollution control board along with district administration will have to strictly monitor their activities and make sure that they adhere to laid down norms. Though late, the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board deserves appreciation for initiating action against those industries found causing harm to the environment. This will send out strong message to the industries operating in the state and force them to follow the guidelines.
