ITANAGAR, May 29: The Zoological Survey of India’s state regional centre here launched the celebration of the World Environment Day (WED) by organizing a plastic cleaning drive in and around the centre’s campus on 29 May.
The theme for the World Environment Day celebration this year is ‘Beating the plastic pollution’.
Besides the staff of the regional centre and their family members, residents nearby also joined in the cleaning drive.
Speaking on the “plastic menace” throughout the world, officer in-charge of the regional centre, Dr B Sinha advocated “minimal use of plastic in our day-to-day life.”
He highlighted the importance of recycling plastic “to reduce the burden on the earth.”
India is the global host of the 2018 World Environment Day celebration this year, which will take place on 5 June.
