SILUK, Jun 18: The Silukian Welfare Kebang (SWK) and the All Siluk Students’ Union (ASSU) recently conducted a plantation programme in the flood-prone area on the bank of the Siluk river here in East Siang district.
ASSU president Johnom Ratan said such drives would help protect Siluk and its adjoining villages from floods and soil erosion.
All East Siang District Students’ Union games & sports secretary Toni Damin thanked Mebo Range Forest Officer Obang Tayeng for providing 260 saplings for the plantation drive.
The SWK and the ASSU also appealed to the authorities of the forest department to check the rampant feeling of trees by illegal use of chainsaw within its jurisdiction.
