Harming social fabric of nation

The vicious trolling of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj by right wing supporters on social media exposes the growing anti-minority mindset in the country. Ms Swaraj was trolled on Sunday on Twitter over a controversy involving an inter-faith couple in Lucknow accusing a passport officer of bigotry. Her official handle re-tweeted some of the abusive comments directed at the union minister. Last week, a Passport Seva Kendra official, Vikas Mishra, in Lucknow was transferred after the inter-faith couple alleged that he humiliated them when they went to the office with their passport applications.
The manner in which Ms Swaraj was targeted caught everyone by surprise. However what baffled more was that none of the BJP ministers or leaders came forward to defend her. Interestingly many of trolls who abused Ms Swaraj on Twitter is being followed prominent BJP leaders including senior ministers. Surprisingly it was rival Congress party which defended the external affairs minister. The right wing supporters are increasingly getting bolder and are targeting anyone who goes against their ideology. BJP and its Sangh associates have created a monster that refuses to spare even its leader if they choose to follow the path of secularism. This is very scary and has potential to turn India into new Pakistan, where religious fundamentals have taken over the country. For a secular country like India these developments are against its established values. For short term gain, the BJP and its associates is causing immense harm to the social fabric of the nation.
