AALO, Jul 29: An awareness programme on various prevailing social drawbacks and vices was organized by NGO Mother’s Vision at Ruyi village in West Siang district on 28 July.
Kamba ADC Tamo Koyu and Principal of Donyi Polo College, Kamki, Dr Rejir Karlo, stressed the need for organizing awareness campaigns to educate the people about the ill effects of drug abuse and alcoholism rampant among the younger generation.
Resource person Kennedy Bagra enumerated the types of drug abuse and misuse, and the treatment options available, while representative from the urban development & housing department, Gumli Bagra, spoke on bio-waste management.
Informing that the Mother’s Vision would organize such awareness camps at various schools of the district, its chairperson Jumde Yomgam Gamlin sought cooperation from everyone to make it a ‘people’s movement’ to free the youths from the scourge of the growing drug menace.
GBs and women activists of Kamba and Ruyi villages highlighted issues like construction of toilets along the riverside, keeping the shops open till late night, illegal and unauthorized sale of liquor, and diesel and petrol in open market. (DIPRO)
