TEZU, Jul 31: Advisor to the chief minister, Sotai Kri, launched a tree plantation programme themed ‘Green Lohit, cool Lohit’, organized by Gorkha social organization Himalayan Samaj Kalyan Samiti (HSKS) here on Tuesday.
Addressing the HSKS members, Kri remarked on the gradual rise in temperature in Tezu owing to deforestation, and said, “We need to restore the greenery for which Tezu was once known.”
On the inaugural day, 10 saplings obtained from the forest department were planted in the premises of a government quarters in Civil Supply Colony. Kri advised the HSKS to plant five to ten saplings in government quarters in the month of August.
He also urged the organization to take up cleanliness drives under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at selected localities. (DIPRO)
