ITANAGAR, Aug 10: The Northeast region unit of the BRO Labourers Union (BROLU) in a representation to Border Roads Organization (BRO) Director General Lt Gen Harpal Singh on Thursday sought immediate cancellation of the recent order fixing the upper age limit of casual paid labourers (CPLs) at 50 years.
The BROLU unit’s president Leki Tsering said that, following the order, the 97 RCC officer commanding (OC) has directed the officer in-charge and site in-charge to discharge the CPLs.
“In response to the order, we have submitted a memorandum to the defence minister with a copy to director general, Border Roads, demanding cancellation of the order, but nothing has been done in this regard till date as the OC 90 RCC has now issued a letter to OIC & IC, Vide No 2001/CPL Gen/24/E2, Dated 07-08-2018 to discharge the CPLs who are above 50 years,” Tsering said.
The unit said despite the central and state governments increasing the retirement age from 58 years to 60 years, the BRO CPLs have been discharged after 50 years without any service benefits.
The union has threatened to resort to democratic action if the authorities do not cancel the order.
