CHIMPU, Sep 21: GHSS Daporijo (Upper Subansiri) won the state level boys’ U-17 Subroto Cup football tournament, defeating GHSS Sille (East Siang) 4-3 (6-5) via penalty shootout in the final at the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy football ground here on Thursday.
By becoming the winner of the state level tournament, GHSS Daporijo will represent the state at the International Subroto Cup scheduled to be held in New Delhi from 25 October.
The match went to tie-breaker after both the teams were locked 2-2 in the regulation and extra time.
Earlier, goals from Kodak Bogbi (17th min) and Tajo Yingme (27th min) put GHSS Daporijo in a commanding position in the half first. But they could not hold the lead, ending the game with a 2-2 score at the full and extra time.
The Sille school team restored the parity through Porein Doley and David Pait in the 50th and 57th minutes.
Tajo Yingm and Riten Bori were adjudged best player and best goalkeeper, respectively. Kulin Roji of Upper Subansiri became the highest scorer.
GHSS Kharsang (Changlang) was declared the ‘best disciplined team’ of the tournament.
Officials of the education department, sports promoters, and football lovers witnessed the final match.
