The Yogi Adityanath lead Uttar Pradesh government is busy changing names of the cities, railway stations and showing it as some kind of achievement. After changing name of iconic railway station Mughalsarai to RSS ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, the UP government has changed the name of Allahabad city to Prayagraj. The Congress and other opposition parties opposed the announcement stating that Allahabad had a history attached to it and changing the name of the city to Prayagraj would undermine it. However BJP government has gone ahead and made the announcement of the change of name.
Most of these name changes have been done with communal overtone. The agenda of communal polarization ahead of 2019 general election is quite clear. It is really unfortunate that instead of working for the welfare of people irrespective of religion, caste and creed, the UP government is indulging in brazen communalism. Also what difference will be made by changing names of cities and railway stations? Allahabad is one of the holiest cities of India but is equally dirty and its infrastructure has been crumbling. Government should be concentrating on these issues. Why not make serious efforts to improve the living standard of Allahabad? The BJP government should stop fooling people using religion as tool. Soon a day will come when people will get fed up of it and start asking government to concentrate on governance. After all gods will not feed the stomach and will not for sure provide job to the masses.
