ITANAGAR, Nov 27: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of sexual assault on children in the state.
The organization on Tuesday requested the district administrations and the education department to sensitize teachers to issues relating to the safety of children.
“Every schoolchild should be taught about good and bad touch,” it said, and requested the state authorities to appoint a counsellor at all the schools to counsel children in distress.
The APWWS also strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault on a six-year-old child at the Ramakrishna Mission School in Narottam Nagar (Deomali) by the hostel warden, identified as Subir Sanyal.
It requested the Tirap district administration and police to expedite the investigation, so that justice is delivered to the young survivor.
The APWWS also asked the state government to set up a functional and robust state commission for the welfare of children.
