The Hindi heartland has badly hurt BJP in the just concluded assembly election. Congress party is making comeback in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and is all set to form the next governments. The defeat comes just four months before the general election and will definitely boost the prospect of Congress which has been losing several state elections. BJP was expected to lose Rajasthan as state has reputation of always voting out the ruling regime but it is defeat in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh which will really hurt them. Although being in power for 15 long years saffron party was facing massive anti-incumbency in both the states.
However both Shivraj Chauhan and Raman Singh was very popular Chief Ministers and nobody expected them to lose. Especially the complete decimation of BJP in Chhattisgarh was quite shocking. In compare to BJP, the Congress did not have any big leaders and lacked resources to match them in Chhattisgarh. Despite it they manage to score massive victory. The poor results of assembly election are a message to BJP, especially to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Instead of fulfilling the tall promises made in 2014, the saffron party has been indulging in blatant communal politics. For them Ram Mandir and Cow have become more important issue than creating jobs and addressing the farmers concern. The results of assembly elections have shown that people will not always be swayed by Hindutva agenda. Roti, Kapda and Makan are still main issues for the people. Even though Congress has won big time but still they have miles to go before 2019. Remember BJP and Modi-Shah duo are still formidable force. Congress really has to gets its act together in order to take on the might of BJP, RSS and Modi-Shah duo in 2019 general election.
