ITANAGAR, Jan 4: Members of the Arunachal Pradesh branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Friday joined the association’s nationwide protest by wearing black badges at their workplaces across the state.
The protest was staged against the passing of the Consumer Protection Act 2018, under which the amount of coverage for the district consumer forum has been increased to Rs 1 crore, the state forum can award penalty compensation of upto Rs 10 crore, and the national forum can award penalty compensation from Rs 10 crore to an unlimited amount. The IMA says this could be misused against any doctor and hospital.
“Our other demands are withdrawal of the draconian national medical commission bill and bringing back the democratically elected Medical Council of India,” the IMA’s state unit informed in a statement.
