DADAM, Feb 8: Khonsa West MLA Tirong Aboh on Thursday inaugurated the 100-bedded girls’ hostel for the government secondary school, and the primary health centre (PHC) here in Tirap district.
“These two assets, which had been long sought by the people of Dadam circle, will benefit the villages of the thickly populated circle,” said Aboh.
He urged the locals to assist the authorities concerned in maintaining the assets, and advised the youths to refrain from antisocial activities and concentrate on career-building instead.
Tirap DC PN Thungon urged the people to focus more on education, health and hygiene, and to avail the benefits of the flagship schemes of the state and the central governments.
Social Justice Empowerment & Tribal Affairs (SJETA) Director Yumlam Kaha informed the students about the scholarship schemes available for pre- and post-matric students, and urged the villagers to make optimum use of the old-age pension scheme.
DMO Dr K Mossang commended Aboh for taking the initiative for establishing the hostel and the health centre in Dadam. She requested the work agency to complete the remaining work on the PHC to make it functional at the earliest.
RWD EE K Basar informed that the first installment of the central share, amounting to Rs 128 lakhs, and Rs 13 lakhs from the state share have only just been allocated, due to which some work on the PHC, like electrical wiring, water supply, etc, could not be taken up.
The construction of the girls’ hostel, which was sanctioned by the SJETA department for Rs 200 lakhs, has been completed within a year, informed Khonsa PWD AE SC Gupta.
