ROING, Feb 12: As many as 8000 fingerlings were released in Mehao Lake near here in Lower Dibang Valley district on 9 February.
The objective of the seed ranching programme was to enhance the decreasing fish stock in the natural water bodies, as well as conserve the endangered fish species in all running and still water bodies in the area.
The fish seeds were released by District Fisheries Development Officer (DFDO) Nabam Tania, RFO B Kamdak and ACLM CS Singpho. They reached the lake along with a 12-member expedition team after a seven-hour trek.
The DFDO appealed to the people to take interest in preserving the local fish species in the lakes and rivers of the area, and urged the expedition team to work towards conservation of fishes.
They also explored the possibility of introducing boating and rafting on the lake, which is located 5300 metres above the sea level, and covers an area of approximately 102.3 hectares. (DIPRO)
