DEOMALI, Feb 28: Seventeen extension workers of the agriculture and allied departments participated in an in-service training programme on ‘doubling farmers’ income by 2022′, organized here by the Tirap KVK on Thursday.
Agronomy scientist Dr Simanta Kumar Kalita made a PowerPoint presentation discussing possible ways to increase the farmers’ income twice over by 2022.
He advised the extension workers to emphasize on animal and fishery sciences, along with mushroom cultivation and beekeeping, to increase the district’s farmers’ income.
Dr Kalita also advocated increasing the cropping intensity in the district “through rice, toria, pea and French beans cropping system,” and said the KVK would provide guidance and technical support to increase production, productivity, and the farmers’ income.
Various issues faced by the farmers and extension workers at the grassroots level were also discussed.
The participants later visited the KVK’s farm and demonstration units.
