RAYANG, Mar 23: A five-day ‘residential workshop-cum-lecture demonstration on Kathak dance’ began at Rayang village in East Siang district on Friday evening.
The workshop is organized by the Karpung Karduk Centre for Folk Performing Art Research and Training Centre of Arunachal in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
In his inaugural address, internationally renowned Kathak maestro, Jitendra Maharaj of Vanarasi, urged the young learners to be devoted to cultural activities to become legendary artistes.
Renowned Kathak artist Nalini, who accompanied Jitendra Maharaj, in her speech, said “the youths of the northeastern states are energetic and anxious to learn. Apart from practicing their rich folk cultures, the youths of the region are always eager to learn various Indian cultures.”
Renowned writer and cultural activist, Kaling Borang, expressed hope that the young learners who are involved with folk culture practices would benefit much through the cultural workshop.
The Karpung Karduk Centre and renowned artist Delong Padung had earlier conducted a workshop on Kathak dance, inviting cultural experts of national and international repute as instructors.
Padung’s team has also presented dances showcasing the cultures of Arunachal’s tribes at national level cultural events in different cities of the country.
