RUKSIN, Apr 4: People stayed indoors and all vehicles, except those transporting essential commodities, were off the road on the first day of the 48-hour curfew here in East Siang district on Saturday.
As the curfew got underway at 5 am, people kept themselves indoors, and the roads and marketplaces wore a deserted look. Fuel trucks and other vehicles carrying essential commodities were allowed to proceed towards Pasighat only after verification of permits and other relevant papers.
No untoward incident had been reported till the filing of this report.
The local administration clamped the curfew because of the people disobeying the nationwide lockdown.
Since Ruksin shares boundary with Assam’s Dhemaji district, the curfew is also intended to prevent movement of people across the interstate boundary amid reports of several Covid-19 positive cases being detected in the neighboring state.
Police teams and executive magistrates have been deployed to maintain law and order in all three administrative circles of Ruksin, Bilat and Sille-Oyan.
