KHONSA, 2 Jun: An awareness rally under Nasha Mukt Bharat was taken out by the youths and Panchayat members against the use of drugs and alcohol at Kolam village under Lazu administrative circle in Tirap district on Wednesday.
The participants took out the rally from the village welcome gate to the village chief’s house, holding placards and shouting anti-drug slogans.
Kolam Youth Welfare Association president Nanhang Phuksa said the rally sought to raise awareness among the villagers about the consequences of drug abuse and alcoholism. He said drug addiction among the youngsters has emerged as a serious social problem in the district.
KYWA secretary Ngamlat Hangsik appealed to the youths of Kolam and nearby villages to abstain from drugs and drug peddling. He exhorted them to join hands in the fight against drug abuse for a drug-free society.
Chief of Kolam, Samlin Lowang, Gaon Burah Ngongrap Phuksa, and GPCs Honrang Sawen and Linpong Phuksa also joined the rally. (DIPRO)
