Artist removes anti-dam slogan, FFF coordinator stages sit-in

ITANAGAR, 2 Apr: Graffiti artist Neelim Mahanta on Saturday removed the ‘No More Dam’ slogan which he had written on the boundary wall of the civil secretariat here, defacing a mural that had depicted a mega dam.

He is likely to remove the resistance symbol, which he had painted beside the slogan, on Monday.

Mahanta was arrested along with lawyer and activist Ebo Milli for defacing the mural. Later, the duo was released on bail with the condition that Mahanta would repaint the portion of the wall and bring it back to its earlier form.

Meanwhile, the state coordinator of Fridays for Future (FFF), Oyin Komboh, staged a solo protest while Mahanta was repainting the dam mural.

“The dam doesn’t represent Arunachal’s harmony as it is themed for 50 years of Arunachal’s existence,” she said.
