KANUBARI, 10 May: The gaon burah (GB) of Luksim village in Longding district, Nahpho Boham, who had been abducted by NSCN (K-YA) operatives at gunpoint from his home on Sunday night, was released on Tuesday afternoon.
Longding DSP B Tangjang informed this daily that the GB was released at around 5:30 pm near New Banfera Wunli in Kanubari circle.
The police had earlier informed that the NSCN (K-YA) operatives had taken the GB towards Luakkun village in the neighbouring state of Nagaland. The operatives had accused Boham of providing information about their movements to the security forces.
The police had said that the reason behind the abduction was “non-payment of house and indent taxes levied by the insurgent group.”
Sources had claimed that the NSCN (K-YA) had demanded a ransom of Rs 4.5 lakhs for the GB’s release.
However, the details regarding Boham’s release are yet to emerge.
